His Story
From Michoacán to Coachella
Juan M. Martínez, 49, was born in Michoacán, Mexico, and came to the United States in 1990 to join his mother, who had moved to Coachella in 1984 and worked two jobs to build a life for her family. Juan grew up near Calle Tampico and the Chihuahua Market, graduated from Coachella Valley High School in 1994, and purchased his first home on Avenue 48 in Coachella.
His Career
Twenty Years Helping Coachella Families Come Home
Juan is a 20-year real estate broker and the Managing Broker and Owner of JM Desert Real Estate, now affiliated with Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate as JM Desert Collective. In 2008, when the housing crash hit, Juan sat at kitchen tables with Coachella families — teachers, farmworkers, and neighbors — losing their homes, and fought to help them stay in place.

On June 5, 2026, the Coachella City Council unanimously appointed Juan M. Martínez to fill a vacant council seat. He was sworn in immediately by City Clerk Angela Zepeda. Juan M. Martínez now asks Coachella voters for their support to earn a full term this November.
