    Meet the Candidate

A Coachella Story. A Commitment to Serve.

Juan M. Martínez has spent 20 years helping Coachella families buy, keep, and build value in their homes. Born in Michoacán, Mexico, he came to Coachella in 1990 to join his mother, who had worked two jobs in the city since 1984. A 1994 graduate of Coachella Valley High School, Juan bought his first home on Avenue 48 and went on to build a real estate career serving the community that raised him. On June 5, 2026, the Coachella City Council unanimously appointed him to fill a vacant council seat. He is now running to earn a full term.

    The Priorities

    Building Coachella's Future — Together

Juan M. Martínez is focused on responsible growth, homeownership, and making sure Coachella's future works for the families who call it home.

    Smart Growth & Energy Infrastructure

Coachella has a once-in-a-generation opportunity to control how its remaining undeveloped land gets used — and a responsibility to get it right. Juan brings the same discipline to every land-use vote that he's applied to real estate transactions for 20 years: read everything, ask the hard questions, and put Coachella families first.

    • Support a permanent ban on data centers in Coachella.
    • Demand full Environmental Impact Review scrutiny on major development proposals before any council vote.
    • Partner with IID and the Coachella Electric Financing Authority on energy infrastructure that serves residents, not just developers.

Pathways to Homeownership for Coachella Families

Juan has spent 20 years helping Coachella families buy homes, including helping CVUSD teachers stay in their homes during the 2008 financial crisis. He understands what a city council can actually move on housing — and he will move it.

    • Push for inclusionary zoning requirements that guarantee a percentage of new Coachella developments include workforce and affordable units.
    • Actively engage the city's Housing Element process — read it, advocate within it, and hold the city accountable to its own targets.
    • Build partnerships with CalHFA, CDAR, and local lenders to connect Coachella families with down payment assistance and first-time buyer programs.

“Coachella holds more undeveloped land than any city in this valley. What we approve now decides what our children inherit. I support a ban on data centers, real environmental review of every large project, and an energy strategy that keeps rates affordable and puts revenue back into Coachella.”
